Learning French / August 2012

Est-ce que nous pouvons rester encore une nuit? / Can we stay one more night?
La télévision ne marche pas / The television isn't working

Quel est le nom de votre animal de compagnie préféré? / What is the name of your favourite pet?
Nous voudrions retourner ce cadeau! / We would like to return this gift!

Voilà la clé / There is the key
These are my Learning French drawings from the month of August. More to come next month! I'll be posting them on my Flickr as I go along and then at the end of September again on my blog.

Diane Weigmann / Promo Pictures

Earlier this year I illustrated these promo pictures for the brilliant German singer Diane Weigmann, whose wonderful new album 'Kein Unbeschriebenes Blatt' will be released in early 2013. She is the loveliest person to work with and these were so much fun to draw! I also illustrated the cover/booklet for her new album, can't wait to show you once it comes out. In the meantime you can have a peek at the album cover illustration on her new website. The fantastic photos were taken by Stadtgoeren.de from Berlin.

Sketchbook Saturdays / 04

I love all sizes of sketchbooks, small ones are perfect for carrying around of course and medium ones are always useful (most of my sketchbooks are A5 sized). But if I'm at my desk collecting and developing ideas then I love large A3 sketchbooks, there's so much space to draw and think! This is a glimpse into one of my big sketchbooks.

Shop / Waiting Print

There's a new print in my shops! This illustration is called Waiting and is loosely based on people I've drawn in my sketchbooks while out and about. Strange to be drawing coats and scarves in this hot weather! It makes me look forward to autumn, but only a little bit. The print is now available in my Etsy and Dawanda shops.

Sketchbook Saturdays / 03

It's Saturday again, so here's another little peek in my sketchbook. This week I watched Tideland, picked blackberries, enjoyed the summery weather and made more Learning French drawings, which you can see on my Flickr.

Sketchbook Saturdays / 02

Is it really Saturday again? This week has gone by so quickly. It feels as though I sat down at my desk on Monday morning, looked up and it was Saturday. The weather has been amazing and I have been spending a lot of time drawing, drinking tea, going for runs and eating berries. Here are a few more peeks into my sketchbook.

Sketchbook Saturdays / 01

I love, love, love sketchbooks! I'm constantly drawing random little scribbles and ideas in them, it's nice to be a bit messy and just draw without thinking too much about it. Over the years I've accumulated a lot of them and it's strange and funny to look at old ones and see the way I used to think and draw. And I love seeing other people's sketchbooks, it's always so fascinating! From now on I will be sharing something from my sketchbooks every Saturday - I hope you'll enjoy it.

Learning French

Allez par là / Go that way

"On se souvient." / "We remember."

Où est la porte d'embarquement? / Where is the departure gate?

"Combien ça coûte?" / How much does it cost?

"Ma valise est verte" / "My suitcase is green"

'Learning French' has been a little personal project I have been doing since the start of the year. Even though I took French at school I don't remember very much of it, so I'm hoping to learn a little and get better. They are little illustrations/comics of phrases from my little daily French calendar. You can see all the drawings I've done so far, as well as the English translations here on my Flickr page. From now on I'll post monthly round-ups on this blog as well. A bientôt!

Shop / Thursday Print

Happy August! After a much needed break earlier this summer, I've been back at my desk drawing up a little storm. This illustration is about a girl named Thursday and her little blue donkey. It's now available as a print from my Etsy and Dawanda shops.
